IRSI Workgroups Promote International Partnerships

China / Sun Yat-Sen University - Meili Niu (SYSU), Visiting Associate Professor in SPEA and Adjunct Associate Professor of Political Science, has joined IRSI as a Research Associate to help develop the China Studies Workgroup under the leadership of Wan-Ning Bao (Sociology).

Sociologists David C. Bell and Carrie Foote have undertaken a study of the behaviors of "gatekeepers" in the transmission of HIV/AIDS among heterosexual partners.

Titled, Networks of Heterosexual Risk and HIV, this NIH-Funded project will extend over five years, during which Dr. Bell and his team will conduct interviews with HIV-positive individuals and their HIV-negative partners to determine motivations for risk-reducing behaviors.

Study findings will inform interventions for preventing HIV among partners at risk of infection.
